I finally stopped buying random kitchen towels.
You know the drawer: different colors, different sizes, some too thin, some too decorative to actually use, and somehow none of them match.
I wanted something simpler, so now I keep just two kinds of white kitchen towels on hand — each with a specific job.
#1. Bar Mop Towels for Everyday Drying:
These are my everyday workhorses.
I love them because they are:
super absorbent
a great size
all the same color
easy to wash
simple to grab for just about anything
I use them for all of the everyday drying jobs in the kitchen — hands, counters, dishes, spills, whatever needs it.
And because they’re all uniform, there’s no more drawer full of mismatched towels.
It sounds like a small thing, but opening a drawer and seeing the same clean white towels stacked together makes the whole kitchen feel more organized.
#2. Flour Sack Towels for the Jobs That Need Something Lighter:
Utopia Kitchen White Flour Sack Towels — 6 Pack, 28" × 28"
I also keep flour sack towels on hand because they’re better for a completely different set of jobs.
They’re lightweight, large and made from 100% cotton.
I use them for:
Drying fruits and vegetables
After washing produce, these are perfect for spreading everything out and letting it dry.
Bread making
Great for covering dough or using during bread prep.
Wine glasses
When I want glasses completely dry and spot-free, I reach for these instead of my regular kitchen towels.
They’re also nice when you want something large and lightweight rather than thick and absorbent.
Why I Like Having Just Two Types:
This is one of those tiny systems that makes everyday life easier.
Instead of having an entire drawer of random kitchen towels, I basically have:
Bar mop towels = everyday drying
Flour sack towels = produce, baking and glassware
That’s it.
Everything is white, uniform sized, coordinates and has a purpose.
And when they get dirty, they all go into the wash together.
Simple drawer. No mismatched towels. No wondering which one to grab.
And the collection of too pretty to use ones? They can now be used for their purpose--hanging on the oven door or dishwasher adding a bit of decoration to your kitchen!
