Keeping suitcases up and off the floor makes unpacking and finding things way easier. No crouching down to reach for an item and no suitcase taking over the foot of the bed.
I also prefer keeping luggage off bedding and carpet whenever possible. Suitcases roll through airports, sidewalks, parking lots, hotel rooms, etc. and it just feels cleaner having them up on a luggage rack.
The lower shelf is perfect for shoes, bags or other travel items that would otherwise end up scattered around the room.
Having a luggage rack ready gives an obvious place to put everything, makes the room feel more welcoming and helps contain the inevitable explosion of belongings.
I find that putting two racks per room works well: one for a suitcase and one for a backpack, tote, computer bag, or other items.
